Lucas Hager began playing the violin at the age of 6
using the Suzuki Method. At the age of 12, he was
concertmaster of the Junior All-State Orchestra in his
home state of South Carolina. The same year, he also
won the Junior High division of the SC MTNA
competition for young performers. In 1998, he
enrolled as a music student at the University of South
Carolina to study with Dutch violinist Frits DeJonge,
and received his Bachelor’s in Music Performance
from that school four years later. While there, he
placed first runner-up in the College division of the SC
MTNA competition both in 1999 and 2000. He also
performed with the South Carolina Philharmonic, the
Charlotte Philharmonic, and the Augusta Symphony
while a student at USC.
In 2002, Lucas moved to Chicago in order to study with world-class soloist Vadim Gluzman
at Roosevelt University. Two years later, he completed his Master’s in Violin Performance
there. While at Roosevelt, Lucas was also a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in
2003 and 2004.  Presently, he freelances in Chicago and the surrounding areas, as well as
teaching at the Northwest Music School in Mount Prospect and giving private lessons and
chamber coachings at area high schools.
