Guitarist Jim Konsbruck opened Northwest Music
School in the spring of 2002, having taught actively in
the Mt. Prospect area since 1996.
Jim began his studies under Dave Uhrich (fusion/rock
guitar) and later under Frank Dawson (jazz guitar).
He is a graduate of Columbia College in Chicago and
received a Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar
Performance in 2003 from the Music Conservatory at
Roosevelt University, where he studied under Paul Henry.

In 1998, he participated in the International Festival de la
Guitarra in Cordoba, Spain, where he studied in
masterclasses with Manuel Barrueco and Pepe Romero.
Jim has also performed in masterclasses with Sergio
Assad, Fabio Zanon, and Dennis Azabagic.
Jim is currently on the faculty at Valparaiso
University in Indiana. Also, he serves as
Director for the Chicago campus of DayJams, a
national music summer program operated
through the National Guitar Workshop.
Previous teaching positions include Dominican
University in River Forest, IL., Oakton
Community College’s Alliance for Lifelong
Learning (ALL) program in Des Plaines, IL.,
and Niles West High School in Skokie, IL.
