Andrea Amos cannot think of a time when music
was not a part of her life. Before she was 5 years
old, she was performing and singing for her family
and friends, and at age 6 she started studying the
violin using the Suzuki Method.  Five years later,
she not only played the violin, but drums and piano
as well.  Her first major accomplishment was as
assistant concertmaster of the award-winning
South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra.  Creative
and driven even in high school, she founded two
diverse musical projects in which she sang and
played drums: the first, a punk band and the
second, a professional jazz band that she also
managed.  In addition, Andrea toured North
America singing, playing violins and drums
throughout her high school career.
Andrea moved to Chicago for college, where
she received a Bachelor of Music degree in
Jazz Studies and a Master of Music in Jazz
Studies and Commercial Music, both from
Roosevelt University.
Since moving to Chicago, she has performed
at numerous venues including the Hot House,
Fitzgerald's, The Jazz Showcase, The Elbow
Room, Wise Fools Pub, Redman's, The Note,
Cosmic Cafe, The Hotel Orrington, and Joe
Bailey's. Andrea has been working closely
with world-renowned singer/songwriter
Patricia Barber for the past few years, and
most recently performed on the debut of Ms.
Barber’s new series Mythologies at the
Museum of Contemporary Art.
When not performing, Andrea enjoys teaching
piano, voice and violin privately and at
Northwest Music School.
